Dubai cat and dog registration

Register a cat or dog in Dubai

A microchip alone does not complete Dubai Municipality registration. The published service checks the chip, vaccination record and registered owner, and its website route still requires bringing the pet to the clinic.

Prepare for the clinic visit

Our practical checklist. Ticks stay only on this page; the site does not save them. No pet or owner details are requested.

  1. Have the pet present, keep the existing health record if you have one, and check whether an ownership-change NOC applies. Confirm the appointment and current hours with the service.

  2. Ask the clinic to explain which chip, vaccination, owner-record and registration steps apply to your animal before treating a quoted amount as the final bill.

  3. Check the pet’s identification number and owner details against the issued record. Keep that record with the vaccination history and ask what follow-up is needed.

1 · Registration preparation

Open the exact registration service

Start with Dubai Municipality’s “Pet registration” service for cats and dogs. It covers registration, numbering and amendments. The page lists citizens, residents and visitors under Who Can Apply; that list is not a decision on your individual application.

2 · Registration preparation

Prepare the pet and the relevant records

Physical presence of the pet is listed under Required Documents. Take the Animal Health Record (pet passport), if available. For an ownership change, the page also lists an NOC to transfer the animal ownership. That conditional NOC is not listed as a universal document for every registration.

3 · Registration preparation

If your pet already has a microchip

The service FAQ says cats and dogs with microchips can be registered by checking the chip, checking the validity of recorded vaccinations and verifying the owner registered in the system. It describes re-administering a vaccine if it is no longer valid. Ask the clinic what is needed for your animal; do not assume an existing chip proves completed registration or that a second chip is automatically required.

4 · Registration preparation

Follow the website or clinic route

The website instructions say to log in using a Municipality username and password or UAE Pass, fill in details, upload documents and apply. They then say to bring the pet to the clinic for registration and numbering, pay the fees and receive the identification-number record and vaccination record if not available. The separate clinic instructions say to bring the animal, present documents and pay, then receive the records. Al Khawaneej Veterinary Clinic is the named specialised location.

Published fee lines, not a total price

The service lists animal registration for dogs and cats at AED 10, and animal numbering at AED 50 per microchip. It separately states “Knowledge and innovation: AED 20 for each service exceeding AED 50” and “VAT: 5%”. These are the published lines, not a total price for your pet. Confirm the applicable items, vaccination charges and tax basis with the service; do not simply add every line or assume a new chip is needed.

What “pet passport” means here

The service FAQ uses pet passport to mean the pet’s health and identification record, including preventive measures such as vaccinations and internal parasite control. This definition is not an import or travel document approval. Registration does not by itself establish travel clearance, housing permission or permission to keep a restricted animal.

Lost health record

The FAQ says a replacement record can be issued when the previous vaccination was administered at Dubai Municipality’s Al Khawaneej Veterinary Clinic, and describes visiting during official hours without a prior appointment for that replacement. That is a replacement-record condition, not a walk-in promise for all registration services.

How we checked this and what to confirm

How we checked this

We opened the Municipality’s public service portal, searched for pet services and read service 4215’s required-document, fee, payment, application, eligibility, terms and FAQ panels on 29 October 2026 in America/Edmonton (30 October UTC). We did not log in, apply, book, pay or attend a clinic. This is an original preparation guide, not a Municipality service.

Check current arrangements

29 October 2026 is our source-check date, not a service publication or effective date. The portal shows a general footer date but a service-specific revision date was not established. Confirm current hours, appointment availability, fees and your animal’s requirements through the official service. This guide does not set a renewal interval or replace veterinary advice.

Separate tasks stay separate

Import and export, international travel, animal restrictions, landlord or building rules and adoption are separate questions. The preparation checklist is our own method. It does not collect, save or submit pet, owner or microchip details, and checking it does not complete registration.

Common registration questions

Can an already microchipped cat or dog be registered?

Yes, the service FAQ describes checking an existing microchip, vaccine validity and the owner in the system. Ask what remains for your animal; a chip alone is not the completed registration.

Do I need to bring the animal after applying online?

The published website route includes bringing the pet to the clinic for registration and numbering. Confirm your appointment and current arrangements with the service.

Is the ownership-transfer NOC required in every case?

The document line is conditional on applying for ownership change. Ask the service about your case rather than treating it as a universal registration document.

Does the one-working-day statement mean an appointment tomorrow?

No. The published clinic completion time is measured from the appointment date. It does not establish appointment availability or guarantee approval.

Moving home as well? Keep animal registration separate from your housing paperwork. See the Ejari renewal preparation guide for that different task.
